Week1A: My Blog Theme
This post is all about my blog's theme and the reasoning behind it. I went with a default theme that Blogger provided because these already have a unified style to them that does not distract from the content. I chose to use a preset theme that already had a black background rather than choose a light theme that I'd have to go in and change the background color to black. Personally, I prefer dark themes on most platforms because they're a bit easier on the eyes, especially at night, and because I think they look more sleek. I also chose a preset that contained a sans serif font because I find these fonts more appealing than serif fonts.
I adjusted the font colors in the advanced options of the theme customizer. I decided that links and action text would have the theme colors which I chose to be a cyan color that matched the picture in the header and the colors in my profile picture. The title of the blog, my name, and the body text remained white to bring the most attention to the content of the blog but not so bright and colorful like the link/action text to indicate that it was clickable text. Text for menus, comments, and credits to blogger were changed to a mid-tone gray to reduce attention to these items while reading blog posts.
I think that this is a good starting off point for my blog. It's simple and clean to start but I'd like to personalize it more as the semester progresses. I think I'll stick to a plain black background but I might consider using a background image if it is at a lower opacity and not super disruptive to the text displayed in front. I'd like to create my own custom banner for the top that displays samples of my own artwork and possibly even change my profile picture to a stylized portrait of myself; this ties into my goals of learning how to better navigate social media to better market myself as an artist.
Hey Laura,
ReplyDeleteI like the layout of your blog as well as the black background. I'm with you on black themes being the best, dark themes in generally don't strain your eyes and makes things easier to read. For me at least. Keep up the good work though!
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about keeping the layout dark. I think it looks cleaner and it definitely is easier on the eyes! I love your idea about using your own artwork to personalize it a little bit more!
Hi Laura!
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate the dark/light contrast and how you emphasize the dark theme. It feels mysterious and stirs my curiosity. I feel like being like an astronaut and excited to see where the spaceship will take me!
